UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY ONE OF THE NATION'S MOST EFFICIENT NONPROFITS: WE ARE ONE OF THE NATION'S LARGEST AND MOST EFFICIENT HEALTH CHARITIES

In recent rankings of the nation's nonprofit organizations and associations, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is ranked as the nation's largest health charity and one of the most efficient with an estimated 85 cents of each dollar spent directly on programs and services for individuals with disabilities and their families.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy's annual "Philanthropy 400" listing (November 5 1998), UCP's annual income in 1997 of $611,101,000, up $56,123 million from the previous 1996 year, earns the nonprofit organization the number one spot as the largest health charity in America. "Philanthropy 400" lists the top 400 nonprofit groups based on the amount of private support they receive from individuals, foundations and corporations. ($21.5 million or more raised from private support is the criterion for inclusion in the nation's top "400.") The listing also shows that United Cerebral Palsy continues to be among the nation's most efficient health charities with 85% of the organization's income spent directly on programs and services to advance the independence, productivity and participation of people with disabilities across America.

Among all nonprofits, United Cerebral Palsy ranks #167 in the 1998 survey with more than $52,520,000 in contributed dollars. In 1997, the more than $518 million spent on programs and services helped provide evaluations and treatments, therapies, assistive technology equipment and trainings, employment, information and referral services, early intervention, individual and family supports, social and recreation programs, community inclusion, independent living, advocacy for individuals with disabilities and their families and community education.
